Professor M. Firoz Ahmad, former Vice Chancellor (2010-2013) of Nilamber Pitamber University, Jharkhand, India, was born on 14th January, 1946 in India. He did his post-graduation in Zoology (1968) and was awarded Gold Medal for securing First Position. He has also obtained a Ph.D. degree in Zoology in 1978 from Ranchi University. He served Ranchi University as Professor of Zoology, Head of the department and also Dean Student Welfare (DSW). He also served as Pro-Vice Chancellor and later Vice Chancellor of Nilamber Pitamber University of Jharkhand. Presently, he is a member of the senate of Ranchi University and also of Nilamber Pitamber University. 

Apart from being Member of National Academy of Science (India), Prof. Ahmad is Fellow of the Zoological Society of India and International Society for Ecological Communications. He is associated with many journals and academic bodies in various capacities in the country. He has successfully supervised 17 Ph.D. thesis and has published about 60 research papers in Indian and foreign and journals. His teaching and research interests include Environmental Sciences, Fisheries Sciences, Hormonal and Environmental Physiology, Fish Toxicology, Biodiversity etc.
